At The Abbiest Baby, we are dedicated to making neonatal care simpler, faster, and more precise for the healthcare teams who care for our tiniest and most vulnerable patients. As a women-owned, clinician-led company, our mission is to support NICU providers with tools that streamline essential calculations, reduce cognitive load, and deliver reliable information at the bedside.

The Abbiest Baby was founded by Abbie Hofstrand, MSN, APRN, CPNP, a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of hands-on neonatal and cardiac experience. Abbie earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Columbia University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Penn State University. She has worked with newborns since 2012 and has been caring for critically ill infants in the NICU and cardiac intensive care environment since 2013. Her clinical background includes neonatal stabilization, congenital heart disease, infant feeding challenges, home monitoring programs, and emergency response.

After years of working closely with infants, families, neonatologists, NPs, PAs, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and bedside nurses, Abbie saw firsthand how much time caregivers lose searching for accurate numbers, converting formulas, and double-checking math. She also saw how stressful and high-stakes neonatal care can be when teams must make rapid decisions using precise and complex data.

Her passion has always been twofold: advocate fiercely for the babies, and lift up the healthcare professionals working tirelessly at their side.

Why We Built This App

The NICU Tool was created to solve the challenges that NICU and neonatal cardiac clinicians face every day. Our goal is to provide a clean, intuitive clinical calculator platform that reduces errors, saves time, and improves workflow.
